Mark Olsson is an American inventor and engineer, founder of DeepSea Power & Light (DSPL), a company specializing in deep-sea imaging and lighting equipment. He participated in the 1980–81 Titanic search expeditions organized by Mike Harris, providing and operating specialized cameras and lights on submersibles such as ROV Jason to capture video and images of the ocean floor. Olsson’s interest in ocean exploration began as a child, and he pursued mechanical engineering at UC San Diego before joining Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Since founding DSPL in 1983, he has developed innovative underwater technologies used in scientific research, shipwreck exploration, and deep-sea filming for both documentaries and major motion pictures.
