Mahiara Sáenz is a Chilean film director and screenwriter whose work explores memory, identity, and spirituality through a poetic and territorial gaze. Her cinema blends documentary and fiction, creating worlds that dialogue through the bizarre, the lyrical, and the extravagant. Her filmography includes Insomnio (2025), a surreal short film about memory and belief, and Subtexto (2025), an experimental piece that delves into the inner monologue and emotional distance. She is currently developing the documentary Ándate a la punta del cerro, centered on the strength and history of the Montedónico community in Valparaíso, and her first feature film La lengua de la pampa, a work of magical realism set in Chile’s desert territories. With a sensorial and dreamlike visual language, Sáenz positions herself as one of the emerging voices of Latin American auteur cinema.
