Lily is trying her hardest to live up to everyone's (read: Mom's) unrealistic expectations of being a "real" grown up. However, when she is caught red-handed having an abortion in secret, Lily is forced to realize (as is Mom, obviously) that being an adult, especially a "perfect" one, isn't something you can do on your own.
